Due to serious accidents involving propane in Ontario, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority of Ontario (TSSA), have stepped up enforcement of the legal requirements for compressed gases used on Ontario workplaces. Also, provisions in Ontario’s Safety Regulations for Construction Projects enable the Ministry of Labour to enforce the setup and use of propane heating equipment. The T.S.S.A. authority also inspect propane setups in Ontario.

Energy Act Section 14 states:

“14 – (1) Subject to the regulations, no person shall install, alter, purge, activate, repair, service or remove any appliance or equipment or other thing employed or to be employed in the handling or use of hydrocarbon unless the person is the holder of a certificate for the purpose.
